Born in San Jose, California, Shona has felt a drive towards art from an early age. They wanted to become an artist at the age of five, after watching a Jim Henson instructional video on how to be a cartoonist. This spark led to a lifelong passion for drawing.
While studying printmaking at Arizona State University in 2010, they began their first tattoo apprenticeship, exploring the possibilities and permanence of ink.
Shona relocated to Portland, Oregon, in 2015, where they focused on building a career as a tattoo artist. Their work evolved into a distinctive style of surrealist blackwork, combining elements of the magical, the macabre, and the intricacies of the human body and nature. While in Portland they attended PNCA and earned an MFA in Print Media in 2020.
In 2021, Shona returned to the Bay Area to continue expanding their artistic practice, further refining their tattoo work while exploring new creative avenues in textiles.
